Hello

I'm Germaine, from beautiful Singapore. As a parent to a tween and having worked in schools for the last 15 years, 'Child Safeguarding' has become very close to my heart.

My sincere belief is that we all have a collective responsibility in keeping our young safe from harm and abuse. To this end, adults must engage with relevant safeguarding knowledge, and children must be made aware and taught the age-appropriate safeguarding skills to better and safely navigate the changing world.

My Story

Like many parents, I have come to the realisation that in order for me to support my daughter's growing independence, I need to equip myself with the knowledge of our issues pertaining to our young today. By doing so, I can best work alongside her to develop the skills to safeguard herself whilst confidently engaging with our world. Like many parents, it feels incredibly daunting to step into a realm where we find that the risks and dangers are so real, often feels out of our control and directly challenges our protective instincts.

Like many educators, in my 15 years working in schools, I have come to the realisation that amongst all the responsibilities we have for children under our care, keeping them safe and protected is irrefutably, at the very top of the list. I witnessed how having clear safeguarding systems and practices better safeguards children and all within our school community.

With my experience as the Designated Safeguarding Lead in an international school, I had invaluable opportunities to engage with international organisations in the UK, Australia and within Singapore. I felt a deep sense of relief just knowing that the expertise and information on safeguarding our children is widely available. However, if we do not actively engage with this knowledge, we are not safeguarding our young.

About Us.png

The content which I create and curate grows from the following beliefs.

Content is Enabling and Empowering - Staggering statistics and news regarding the significant risks and dangers that our young face today, have its place in reminding us of the necessity of immediate action. However, fear mongering will not be the basis of the content on this site, but rather, information will be shared from an enabling and empowering perspective to promote agency and action.

Contributes to Sustainable Change - Whilst content today seems to be best digested in bite-size portions, quick fixes may be counterproductive to the safeguarding conversations that we are trying to generate. I am a firm believer in empowering our young, that by being a part of the dialogue, our young have the agency and skills to safeguard themselves. Ultimately, that is what we want: If our young know how best and can confidently safeguard themselves, this is the sustainable societal change that we want. As such, the content I create are not meant to give solutions as I don't have the answers, but rather try to offer the language for adults to approach and speak to the children regarding the wide range of safeguarding topics.

Collaborative and Dynamic - This seed that I am planting today is my humble wish for it to grow into a safeguarding community (with adults and young alike). For the content that I create be relevant and engaging to you all, I would love to hear from and connect with you. In this way, we collaboratively build a platform for dynamic dialogue and change..

Safeguarding our Children is Our Society's Collective Responsibility.

You've heard my story now. My life experiences thus far has led me to this. I am certain that in some way, be it your experiences as a child, of knowing a child, of working with a child or having a child, that you have your own stories that illuminate and reinforce this call for dialogue and action.. Let's act individually and collectively to safeguard our young
